About Me

Bio

I grew up in a fishing family near Sandpoint, Idaho, near Lake Pend Oreille. Here I am hoisting a Kamloops rainbow trout in 1980. I attended the University of Idaho (B.A. 1995), Washington State University (M.A. 1998), and the University of New Mexico (Ph.D History, 2008). I live in Bozeman, MT where I am an associate professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. I angle when I can and write about it when I can't.

Book Project #1

Examines various projects of the famed banana company in early twentieth-century Latin America, concerned in particular with how company employees related to their surroundings.

Current Research

A history of fisheries on the Upper Columbia centered on Lake Pend Oreille. My family's own fishing history, both commercial and sporting, drew me to this project.
